Respectful Maternity Care

Respectful Maternity Care is a human right!

I have seen disrespectful practices on numerous occasions at "respected" hospitals and birth centers here in Austin, Texas...

*I have seen care providers not stop when a woman said, "STOP!"
*I have seen care providers administer medication into a woman's body without her consent in a non-emergency situation.
*I have seen care providers not fully inform a woman of all of the risks of a medical intervention.
*I have seen care providers verbally abuse women with shame, ridicule and threats.
*I have seen care providers discriminate women based on their appearance and choices.

THIS MUST STOP NOW!

SPEAK UP WITH LOVE AND COMPASSION!

BE HONEST!

I have witnessed beautiful births here in Austin, Texas...

*I have seen care providers nurture women through their tender journey into motherhood.
*I have seen care providers fully inform women of all risks associated with an intervention, so she can make an informed decision on HER care.
*I have seen care providers respect a mom's decision.
*I have seen care providers not discriminate women.
*I have seen care providers respect a women's body and privacy.

ALL WOMEN HAVE A RIGHT TO RESPECTFUL MATERNITY CARE!

A little laugh...

Laughing resets your endocrine system and also produces oxytocin. Here is THE clip from Monty Python that is so ridiculous but touches on some actual hospital protocols that I have seen personally. Enjoy!

Anterior Cervical Lip Discussion

I just read an interesting blog post about the physiology of women having an anterior lip during the last part of dilation. I consistently see women be "diagnosed" with an anterior lip and told to not push yet even though they want to, which has always confused me, so I really enjoyed this post. Tell me what you think!
